North American Food Drive

Our philanthropy is the North American Food Drive. To find out more about how Lambda Chi Alpha has helped tremendously with the NAFD for several years, please click here.

Our international slogan for our philanthropy work is "Brothers Feeding Others." Here is some information from our national website about what that means:

Let’s face it, attending college is a privilege. And as a group with privilege it is essential that we give back to those who are less fortunate. In essence, that is the basis of any service/philanthropic event. While in the past, each chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha was left to find its own way of benefiting others, the NAFD was instituted in the early 1990’s as an official fraternity philanthropy. No matter which chapter with which a member is affiliated, the NAFD should provide a commonality of experience that helps contribute to the bond that Lambda Chi Alpha brothers and associate members share through our traditions, and rituals.

Brothers Feeding Others -- That’s the theme as more than 10,000 brothers of more than 200 chapters of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity complete the largest single-day fraternity philanthropic project in North America. Lambda Chi Alpha raises several hundred thousand pounds of food annually to benefit local shelters, food pantries and assistance programs in their communities.

Unlike other philanthropies that may send money centrally to worthy causes, Lambda Chi Alpha wishes to contribute locally to the communities that harbor them everyday of their college life. In this way, Lambda Chi Alpha is able to give back to their neighbors the gift and benefit of service and caring essential in a True Brother.

Each year, Lambda Chi Alpha's chapters and brothers lead the way in addressing a vital issue:  hunger. The event often attracts large-scale media coverage as brothers and associate members work together as an international Fraternity to help our communities fight hunger. The NAFD enables all of our chapters to collectively confront a serious problem and also display the positive impact that fraternities can have on their local communities.

United in purpose, the NAFD reaches out across an entire continent as brothers all over North America work to better the communities in which they live.

                                    Lambda Chi Alpha's Watermelon Bust

                         Watermelon_Bust

To assist our efforts in collecting the largest possible amount of canned goods for the North American Food Drive, Lambda Chi Alpha has developed a large-scale philanthropic event aimed at involving sororities, campus organizations, and even other fraternities. Watermelon Bust is essentially a multiple-day event featuring several games using watermelons as the overall theme. Participants receive an official Watermelon Bust tee-shirt, and can participate in as many events as they choose. Each team also donates a number of cans to participate in the event, and even use them in our Can-Sculpture Contest, which we judge. In the past, the chapter at EIU has raised as much as 30,000 lbs of food from this event! Full details of this year's Watermelon Bust can be found here
